1st Place x2!
Saturday was the Coquille Spring Chess Tournament, and all three kids participated. There was a good turnout and some good competition.
Julianne plays in the 6-12 grade division, so there is some pretty stiff competition. She won four out of five of her games (her one loss was to a high school boy) to take 1st place in the 6th grade category. The Roseburg chess coach made a point of telling Julianne, Brad, and me that he'd been watching Julianne and was impressed with how well she plays. It was great to see her accept that trophy!
Caleb plays in the K-5 division, and was once again the powerhouse that caused the other kids to groan when they found out they had to play him. He won all five of his games and adds another 1st place trophy to his collection.
Elisa's only win came in the form of a bye, but she won the prize for having a great attitude and lots of fun. She met some new friends with whom she loved playing in between rounds. She even came home with a couple phone numbers in her pocket, which I thought was adorable. She's growing up!
