My aspiring writer

The kids have been learning about the period of American history when settlers were moving west, including the gold rush era. This week, they each had to write a story about the gold rush, but there was a twist. They had to write it from the perspective of a piece of gold.

Despite being overwhelmed with excitement about his upcoming trip up the Rogue with Papa, Caleb set his focus on writing a great story, and I think he did an outstanding job. Here it is:

The Story of a Piece of Gold

It's totally black, then I see some light. He sees me and I see him. OUCH! He's pounding on me! Hey, that hurts. Stop that. He yells to someone and a crowd comes running. I'm surrounded with people. They all held me up toward that big bright thing. These people are giants. They treat me like gold. They put me in a leather pouch. They cut me in half and gave that half to someone else. And then they took me to a big thing that they lived in. They had a lot of people over and they all held me carefully. And then I was stored away for a very long time.

The End
