Beauty AND Brains

Some friends from church have a son Julianne's age, and he recently joined the 6th Grade Knowledge Bowl team for his school. His mom called me to tell me about the club, thinking Julianne might enjoy it. Today was their first competition, and despite having never tried out for the club or been to a single practice, Julianne was able to participate.

Teams from a bunch of different schools met at the Boys & Girls Club in Coos Bay. They'd pair up the teams for each round, and the kids would get to "buzz in" if they knew the answer to the question. The topics ranged from history & geography to literature to math, and even some entertainment questions.

We've always known Julianne was smart, but this was really her chance to shine. She did extremely well, and was undoubtedly the high scorer on her team. The kids kept whispering "You're good!" to her when she'd get another answer correct.

She's excited to start joining the team for practice each week, with more competitions scheduled to take place throughout the year.
